According to recent reports from France, a British boy who had been missing for seven years was discovered on a highway in the early hours of the morning. The 17-year-old, named Alex Batty, has revealed that he was a victim of sexual abuse during his time away. Following his discovery in France on Thursday, it has been confirmed that he will return to the United Kingdom on Saturday.
In 2017, Batty had traveled to Spain with his mother and their horse, after which he mysteriously disappeared. While details surrounding his disappearance remain unclear, French police suspect that his mother is the primary suspect in the case. It has been revealed that she had lost custody of Batty back in 2017, according to British authorities. Speculations arose that the mother might have fled to Finland. However, due to ongoing investigations, French authorities have refrained from providing further details on the matter.
Interviewed by the police
The young boy’s mother was interviewed by the police this morning, further intensifying the investigation. However, it is unknown whether Batty informed the authorities about the alleged sexual abuse he claims to have suffered during his childhood. It was reported that he expressed his desire to return to the UK while speaking with the delivery man who discovered him. Batty’s paternal grandfather had been his legal guardian during his disappearance. Reportedly, the mother had given up on ensuring the young boy attended school, instead preferring to live in alternative communities with her son.
The delivery man, Fabien Accidini, stumbled upon Batty in the early hours of the morning. Accidini revealed that he initially spotted the teenager skateboarding along the coast with a light and a backpack. Upon engaging in conversation, Accidini realized that Batty was not French and began inquiring how he had ended up in that particular location.
It was soon discovered that Batty had managed to seek help from another individual in making a phone call. He asked the delivery man to send a message to his aunt in the United Kingdom, expressing his desire to return home. The text read, “Well, my dear, I am Alex. I am in Toulouse, France. I would be very grateful if you could get this message. I love you. I want to go home.”
Recognizing the severity of the situation
Accidini promptly took Batty to the local police, who were able to verify the teenager’s identity and initiate the necessary procedures for his repatriation to the UK.
Looking back at Batty’s disappearance, it was in 2017 when he went on a trip to Malaga, Spain with his mother, Melanie, and his grandfather, David. It was David who reported that Batty’s mother was responsible for the alleged kidnapping. During an interview with the BBC, he stated that she did not have the legal custody of the child and unexpectedly entered into labor with their horse.
As the investigations unfold, the whereabouts of Batty’s mother and father remain unknown. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather more information surrounding the case and bring the responsible individuals to justice. The focus now lies on ensuring Batty’s safe return to the United Kingdom and providing him with the necessary support and care after his traumatic experience.
